At Length
Following his graduation from law school, Allen joined a small computer company in Austin, Texas, called PC's Limited, now Dell, Inc. His time at PC's Limited convinced him he would be unhappy without a technology-oriented practice. With that goal, Allen relocated to New York City, where he joined and ultimately became a partner at Kenyon & Kenyon LLP, then one of the oldest and largest intellectual property firms in the world. During his 21 years with Kenyon, Allen counseled a wide range of companies on intellectual property matters, with particular emphasis on companies in the internet commerce, computer, and telecom fields, as well as those seeking to expand their rights into new geographies. In addition to his legal practice, Allen chaired the firm's technology committee and was responsible for helping select and negotiate relationships with the firm's many technology vendors.
In 1997, after seconding as Intel's chief trademark counsel (his second seconding stage; the first was as chief trademark counsel for Marvel Comics), Allen moved to the Bay Area to help start Kenyon's Silicon Valley office. After 10 years in California, Allen was lured to the Pacific Northwest, where he became a partner at K&L Gates and helped manage its clients' IP portfolios from the firm's Seattle office.
Three years later, Allen returned to the Silicon Valley and opened his own firm, Edge Law Group, which he has operated since 2011.
Allen founded Baden Law in 2020 after moving to Dallas to be closer to family.
Allen's experience is unusually broad, having represented such companies as Intel, Sony, Olympus, Apple, Brocade, Broadcom, Brown Brothers Harriman & Co., Frank J. Zamboni & Co., Inc., Acquacue, Starway Restaurants, Commscope, Rogers Foods, the Jimtown Store, the Estate of Fan Ho, British Khaki Furniture, Donghia Furniture, CRIMEWATCH Technologies, Inc., and others.
